Alterac Valley Tips
Enter the queue
You can go to the battlemaster at the major cities to enter the Battleground queue. Once you sign onto the queue, remember that you can do whatever you want while you wait. While waiting, you could use your hearthstone to port back to town to manage your bank account, check out the auction house, or send mail. Or you could also head off into the world and work on some quests, or kill monsters for loot and reputation gain. Once the battleground is ready, you can enter it from wherever you happen to be. Keep in mind that outside of its holiday weekend, Alterac Valley will ...

Party Tips
To be a good party member you should learn about the basics of good party play.
Pick a leader and stay with your group!
Pick someone to lead the party around. Make sure it's clear to the party that they should be following that specific player. Otherwise, people will wander around and it will become a mess. Wandering players might also wake up a bunch of monsters and cause the party to die. Things are much simpler if the party just picks one person to lead the group.
People who are not leading should do what the leader says and make sure that they are always keeping up with the rest of ...

Mage Tips
Combat
Mages typically try and keep distance between themselves and their enemies. Although able to wield powerful offensive spells, they are particularly vulnerable to close range melee attacks. Spells such as Frost Nova and Blink are particularly useful to a mage when trying to keep their enemies at a safe distance.
Conjuration
Provide these conjured items to your party members when they need them. You might want to prepare some of this stuff before battle so you don't have to waste time inbetween fighting.
Conjure Food - Conjures X loaves of bread, providing the mage and their allies with something to eat.

Shaman Tips
Tips
You should cast Searing Totem at the start of the battle, and then cast a direct damage spell (Lightning Bolt) to pull the monster. If the monsters are spell casters, you might want to start off with the spell Earth Shock to prevent them from casting spells (or healing). If you are soloing, you should cast the spell Lightning Shield, make sure your weapon damage buffs are active, and then engage in combat. You should cast Earthbind Totem to prevent the monster from fleeing or you can try to finish off a running monster with one of the shock spells or your direct damage spell.

General Survival Tips
Situational Awareness
Being aware of your surroundings and your current situation at all times is crucial for surviving in PvP. This includes the actual terrain and setting that you are in, your character's current hit points and mana/energy/rage, the status of your abilities which have cooldowns, and the status and location of any nearby enemies. It's a complex set of assessments that must be constantly reappraised, since PvP combat is a constantly changing battlefield.

Party Etiquette
Party etiquette is very important in a massively multiplayer game. Keep in mind that your reputation will follow you throughout your playing career. If you offend fellow party members, your reputation can be affected. Those party members can tell their friends or guild mates about your behavior and this may affect your dealings with them in the future. They could possibly refuse to invite you to group with them, they might not allow you to join their guild, or possibly bar you from receiving services from their guild mates. This is a worst-case scenario; however, it can happen, and it ...
